History

Denehurst House is a Victorian manor house that was built between 1893 and 1909 and designed by architects S Butterworth & W H Duncan.

It is the historic former family home for the Turners, who employed thousands of people in Rochdale in the heyday of asbestos, before its serious health impacts were known.

It was donated to the town in 1932 and was most recently used as council offices up until the early 2000’s.

Rennovation

Rochdale Borough Council, Groundwork Greater Manchester and H Bells & Sons worked in partnership on the development of Denehurst House in Rochdale from 2022 to 2024.

H Bells & Sons undertook renovations to make the building sound, converting the former office space into five independent flats, creating a café and community space on the ground floor and converting the basement area for the local parks team to utilize.

H Bells & Sons also worked in partnership with Groundwork providing on-site construction training and work experience for 12 local people wishing to pursue a career in construction.

Friends of Denehurst Park

Established in 2014 the Friends of Denehurst Park community group is dedicated to making Denehurst Park a place for everyone.
